We are building the Next Generation of baby nursery furniture by making baby cots accessible to all caregivers, regardless of their physical abilities. All carer givers include but not limited to parents, grandparents, day-care workers, doulas, midwives etc. We aim to be the first baby which fully inclusive and caters for parents which disabilities e.g. parent/person in a wheelchair. Upzeez is an innovative cot that challenges the existing baby products in the market. Our smart 3 in 1 High-Rize Baby Cot is a market disruptor and caters to a wider target audience that struggles with the conventional cots. This includes women that have had a traumatic childbirth as well as those parents with disabilities.
Having studied the market, we understand that one of the biggest complaints with the conventional cot is that the height is too low, which often results in long-term back conditions for many parents. Often women that have had a traumatic birth or C-Section find it extremely hard to move their child in and out of cot without assistance. There have also been complaints about children’s arms or legs getting caught up in the slats.
Our ergonomically designed cot was developed with all of these pain points in mind, and with a focus to minimise back problems as well as aide with recovery post traumatic childbirth. Our cot is height adjustable so that new mums and people with disabilities can easily care for their baby. Our soft, gentle and solid side panels make the cot safe and the breathable mesh allows an easy flow of air, without the risk of injury.
In 2020, almost 140 million babies were born with approximately 21% of these births are via C-Section, making it a target pool of 30 million prospects – for many first time mothers this will be unplanned. A recent study conducted by the National Rehabilitation Information Center also discovered that disabled mothers are desperately seeking modified baby care equipment that can be used at home and allows them to care for their newborn babies more easily and safely. While our product is ideal with the home setting, we plan to make it available at daycare facilities as well as the ergonomic design with protecting the health of our educators.
In accordance to The University of Warwick, 570 million people have a disability due to back pain and of those 81% of them experience chronic pain. Lifting a baby in and out of its cot can worsen these back issues – full-time caregivers of a baby may lift up to one tonne every day.
A traditional cot requires bending and risks discomfort and tearing of stitches, leaving most cots unfit for purpose and use. Our product design is extremely competitive, and we are currently in discussion with a manufacturer to start the production of this product. Our focus has been to find a manufacturer that is not just competitive at a cost front but also has a positive reputation, prides itself on quality, usability and employs sustainable production processes. We fully embrace the circular economy where possible and viable.
Our impact will be global by setting new standards within the baby nursery furniture industry and most importantly giving consumers what they truly deserve – a product that eliminates/reduces pain or discomfort while caring for their bundle of joy.
