To achieve this, SecondMuse designs, develops, and implements a mix of innovation programming and investing capital. From Singapore to San Francisco, SecondMuse programs define inspiring visions, build lasting businesses, and unite people across the globe. Over the last decade, they’ve designed and implemented programs on 7 continents with 600+ organizations such as NASA, The World Bank, and Nike.
Their impact has scaled over 500 ventures, prototyped 30,000+ solutions, invested $325 million in supporting ventures, and generated $10 billion in social and environmental impact.
It is important to note that the majority of technologies young people interact with were designed by individuals and corporations that do not fully understand what is actually needed to support youth in their digital experiences. To address this issue, SecondMuse developed Headstream, the innovation hub promoting mental wellbeing platforms to help teens and underserved communities as they navigate the digital landscape. Through research, innovation acceleration, youth programs, and collaborative ecosystem labs, Headstream is aiding in the creation of purposeful social technologies that foster beautiful digital experiences for young people as they grow up.
By bringing young people in to co-create and design these social technologies, SecondMuse and Headstream are offering young people a chance to transform the way social technologies are built and to create new products that support their healthy digital experiences.
Headstream’s initiatives include:
- Digital Delta: Digital Delta is a free crowdsourced research tool that identifies fundamental contributors to adolescent wellbeing in digital spaces. The tool provides designers the strongest opportunity to support adolescent wellbeing through their innovations.
- Accelerator: The Headstream Accelerator is an opportunity to become the heartbeat of a community dedicated to building social technologies for all young people. With the help of Headstream, young people are able to shape a just and inclusive internet. Through this program, Headstream has supported 25 innovations that enrich digital places and experiences.
- Youth 2 Innovator Incubator: The Youth 2 Innovator Incubator is a 3-month, virtual, cohort-based, crash course in wellbeing and technology for young people. This incubator of 6 young people across the United States is working on innovations that address an aspect of youth wellbeing and address wellbeing issues specific to Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and LGBTQIIA+ youth.
- Collab Lab: Collab Lab is a cohort of 6 past Y2I Leaders working with Tech Practitioners to integrate youth perspectives into the technologies they use daily. As a culmination of Headstream’s youth empowerment ladder, Collab Lab provides young people the chance to share their voices and work as designers and facilitators of the program. These young people are acting as direct changemakers to the largest social technology platforms youth are impacted by most.
